How to Write Influencer Outreach DMs That Get Replies

Jun 2, 2026 · 2 min read

Creators get flooded with copy-pasted collab requests and ignore almost all of them. The ones that get a reply share a pattern: they are short, specific, and easy to say yes to. Here is how to write outreach DMs for gifting that actually land.

Why templates get ignored

A creator can spot a mass template in the first line. Generic openers like "We love your content and would love to collaborate" signal that you sent the same message to a hundred people. The moment it feels automated, it goes in the trash.

The fix is not more flattery. It is proof that you actually looked at them and that saying yes costs them nothing.

The three-sentence structure

Keep the whole message to about three sentences. Longer pitches lower your reply rate, not raise it.

  • Sentence 1: something specific about their recent content, so it is obvious you are not mass-sending.
  • Sentence 2: who you are and the offer, in one line: free product, no strings.
  • Sentence 3: a tiny, low-pressure ask, like whether you can send it over.

Personalization that still scales

Personalization does not mean writing a novel for each creator. One genuine, specific detail in the first line is enough, and that is the part you should never automate blindly.

Everything else, the offer and the ask, can stay consistent. The goal is a message that reads as written for one person while still being fast to produce at volume.

The follow-up most people skip

Most replies do not come from the first message. A single polite follow-up after four or five days often roughly doubles your response rate, because the first DM simply got buried.

Send one follow-up, keep it friendly, and then stop. Chasing harder than that hurts more than it helps, and it is exactly the kind of timing an agent can handle for you so nothing warm slips through.
